Based on the award winning play by Julian Mt , the film explores the effect of Public School life in England in the 1930's on Guy Bennett (Rupert Everett). In a school where affairs between boys are accepted as long as they believe their preference is a passing phase and that they do not get found out, Guys attraction for another pupil turns to love and he realises his sexuality is not a transitory phase. As his homosexuality and unwillingness to "play the game" turns him into a target for criticism, he strikes back, using the communist creed as his weapon...
