Spin is the directorial debut of James Redford, son of actor and filmmaker Robert Redford.
When 8-year old Eddie's parents are killed after their light plane crashes he is left in the care of his uncle Frank, who is also a pilot. Soon after, Frank takes a long-term job abroad and Eddie is left behind to be raised by ranch manager Ernesto and his school-teacher wife Margaret. By the time Frank returns to fulfill his brother's wish that Eddie be taught to fly, Eddie has grown into a troubled teenager who is struggling to understand the mixed emotions he has towards his uncle, his love for the couple who raised him, the loss of his birth parents and his blossoming first love with Francesca. When Francesca unexpectedly flees to Mexico to escape her abusive father, Eddie must embrace his destiny and accept the dangers and pleasures of love, life and flying.
