Stephen Fleming is a respected Member of Parliament, living a comfortable if uneventful life as he approaches his fiftieth birthday. Secure in his work and his marriage, he has no idea of the drama that is to follow when he is drawn to an attractive woman at an embassy cocktail party.
As their affair develops, they pursue each other with desperate, obsessive abandon and Fleming finds himself willing to give up everything he has just to be with her: But there are complications, and their obsession leads to irrevocable damage.
Jeremy Irons (Brideshead Revisited) and Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) lead a top-notch cast that also includes Miranda Richardson (nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for this performance), David Thewlis (Naked) and Rupert Graves (The Madness Of King George).
