Ten years ago Sarah Hathaway's gifted and troubled son suddenly disappeared from their home in Los Angeles. Still unable to let go she hires a private detective who unexpectedly discovers a new clue as to his whereabouts - an art book containing pictures of beautiful irises that only her son could have painted. Sarah travels to Russia to pursue the lead and with the help of a mysterious mute street boy she must escape the dangers and obstacles of those who try to deceive her.
