1994, 90 minutes, Rated PG
The legendary chapter from The Bible of fraternal envy and loathing, deceit and revenge is brilliantly brought to life in this dramatic and gripping film. Directed by Sir Peter Hall (A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Homecoming), Jacob superbly portrays the classic story of two brothers, Jacob and Esau, as they fight for their father's affection and inheritance. Jacob flees and shelters with his scheming uncle, Laban, but meets and falls in love with the beautiful Rachel. Jacob suffers the cruelty of his deceitful uncle and endures years of pain and suffering as he strives to win the love of Rachel.
Matthew Modine (Memphis Belle, Full Metal Jacket) heads an extremely strong cast that includes Sean Bean (Troy, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Sharpe series) as Esau, Lara Flynn Boyle (Men In Black II, Dead Poets Society) and Joss Ackland (The Hunt for Red October, The Sicilian).
