Let The Truth Set You Free
Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby, Insomnia, Boys Don't Cry) heads up this intense thriller set during South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation hearings and its decisive struggle to heal the wounds of apartheid atrocities. The film's thrilling narrative follows African National Congress Member of Parliament Alex Mpondo (Chiwetel Ejiofor - Serenity, Dirty Pretty Things, Love Actually) and human rights lawyer Sarah Barcant (Swank) who find their lives changed forever by a hearing in the small town of Smitsriver. At the centre of this graceful film lies the case of Dirk Henricks (Jamie Bartlett - Beyond Borders, Bravo Two Zero), who is seeking amnesty for acts of torture he committed as a police officer under the apartheid regime. Alex, once part of an illegal antiapartheid movement, was one of Dirk's victims. Due to the severe abuse he endured, Alex's memory of the brutality is foggy, so he is unable to recall whether he denounced his friend and comrade Steve Sizela, in custody at the same time. Sarah returns home to Smitsriver to investigate Dirk's crimes and to represent Steve - who has been missing since the abuses occurred. Together, as Sarah and Alex delve deeper into the past, they discover that nothing is more dangerous than the truth.
