Set in the final, dying days of French colonial rule in Indochina, this epic, Academy-Award winning period drama stars Catherine Deneuve (Repulsion, The Last Metro) as a rubber baroness caught in a love triangle between her daughter and a dashing naval officer.

With the flames of revolution gathering around her, the beautiful Eliane (Deneuve) stubbornly presides over the last remnants of French rule in the Orient. But when the matriarch enters a brief affair with the handsome Jean Baptiste (Vincent Perez), her safe, opulent world begins to fall apart, symbolised by Jean's subsequent tryst with Camille, Eliane's adopted Vietnamese daughter.

Baptiste and Camille soon shift allegiance to the local rebellion, forcing the renegade couple to seek refuge around the stunning Vietnam archipelago. Amid the sweeping melodrama and political turmoil, captured through spectacular location photography, Deneuve's cool beauty shines throughout in this dazzling tour de force.
