Set in Johannesburg in the 1950s, Drum depicts the native African community of Sophiatown: a vibrant place full of music, love and laughter - and a breeding ground for resistance.
Award-winning South African director Zola Maseko focuses on the popular "Drum" magazine which, under the guidance of "Mr Drum", Henry Nxumalo, served as a community platform. Nxumalo risks his life to expose and challenge the conditions under which ordinary people lived and worked during the apartheid years.
