Richter Boudreau (Eric Stoltz) is the prodigal son of a wealthy family. His mother, Cynthia (Mary Tyler Moore), is a celebrity who works as a film critic for a local newspaper. Within a short time, Richter loses his job, his heritage and his friends, when he falls among blackmailers and murderers.
Richter's life starts spinning out of control, as he soon realises that the blackmail plot is part of a much larger plan that leads to a murder. He wants the madness to end, but more importantly, he wants justice.
