When her teenage son Tristan runs away, Christine gets in touch with two of her ex-boyfriends: Francois (Pierre Richard), a fragile neurotic, and Jean (Gerard Depardieu), a hard-edged journalist. Convincing both men that they are Tristan's true father, she sends these two incompatible characters to the South of France in search of their 'son' - with neither Francois nor Jean aware they are searching for the same boy.
