The year is 50 B.C. and at of Gaul has been conquered by the Romans. All? No! One tiny village continues to resist the Roman occupation with the help of a magic potion which turns its inhabitants into invincible warriors.

When their arch-enemy Julius Caesar (Gottfried John) visits the remote province to investigate why taxes are not being paid, Governor Detritus (Roberto Benigni) and his Roman troops abduct the druid Getafix in an attempt to discover the secrets of his magic potion, Asterix (Christian Clavier), Obelix (Gerard Depardieu) and Dogmatix are sent to save the day with hilarious consequences. When Asterix and Obelix take on Caesar the results are fish slappingly, wild boar roastingly, centurion beatingly funny!
