Down in the swamplands of Louisiana, a place where magic is just one more spice in life's potent gumbo, a local swamp guide tells the tale of a 'passion' fish. Squeeze this slippery fish real tight while thinking of the one you love, he promises, and...
May-Alice (Mary McDonnell - Best Actress Oscar nominee 1992), a daytime TV star is on her way for a leg-waxing when she is hit by a taxi. Chantelle (Alfre Woodard) is her no-nonsense nurse stuck with caring for this self-proclaimed "bitch on wheels" during her recovery.
This discontent duo, each unexpectedly uprooted from big city life, find themselves implausibly paired in rural Louisiana. Yet even as May-Alice and Chantelle try to hide from each other and the world, they are called out into the mossy wilds of the swamp and deep into the bewitching heart of the Cajun culture by two local gentlemen. As they take in the natural world around them, and the friendship between them, they find themselves ready to take on life again. Also starring David Strathairn(Twisted), Nora Dunn (Laws of Attraction) and Angela Bassett (Mr. 3000)
