Tony Childress (Matthew Modine), an infamous, egotistical and obsessive actor/director plays the lead role of Jesus in his controversial new film with Mary Palesi (Juliette Binoche). When the shoot wraps Mary cannot leave the role behind and refuses Tony's plea to return with him to New York. She heads alone to Jerusalem, on a personal journey towards true enlightenment.
A year later in Manhattan, we find the final member of our trinity, Ted Younger (Forest Whitaker), a superstart network journalist in the midst of his prime time special which is investigating the life and times of Jesus Christ. But when his new-born baby is delivered premature and stickly, he and his wife are faced with a life crises they are spiritually unprepared for.
