Featuring the stunningly beautiful Bai Ling, in a sexually-charged performance and the sumptuous cinematography of Christopher Doyle, Dumplings is squirm-inducing voyage through the nightmarish perils of vanity.
Mei (Ling) is a trashy, former doctor who shuttles back and forth across the HK-China border with benign-looking containers of special glistening ingredients for her youth-renewing dumplings; the preferred meal of a high-paying clientele. Qing (Yeung) is a former soap actress attempting to cling to her youth and win back her philandering husband (Leung). The means by which this is achieved is shocking, appalling and stomach-turning, to say the least.
