1993, 98 minutes, Rated M
On a plantation in the lush blue mountains of Jamaica, a family on the verge of losing their estate promises their beautiful daughter Antoinette (Karina Lombard -"The L Word") to Englishman Edward Rochester (Nathaniel Parker -"Bleak House"). Their pre-arranged marriage will endow Edward with wealth in exchange for his pure Anglo bloodline. The young lovers are swept away in a maelstrom of black magic and erotic obsession that ultimately leads to betrayal and revenge.
Jean Rhys' steamy romance featuring characters from Charlotte Bronte's classic "Jane Eyre" is brilliantly realised by Australian John Duigan ("The Year My Voice Broke", "Sirens") and also stars Rachel Ward and Michael York with a young Naomi Watts in a supporting role.
