Wealthy businessman Max Hagan (Tom Wilkinson) has hit hard times, but the situation worsens when his money grasping, soon-to-be ex Barbara (Janine Turner) throws him out of his house without a penny in his pocket. Max left with no options, finds a new ally in Raff (Nick Stahl), the punk rocker, computer programmer boyfriend of daughter Beth (Selma Blair).
Max had previously unjustly dismissed Raff as a never-do-well. Now during a wild evening of drugs, sex and "punk rock" with Raff and his crazy friend Felicia, Max finds some perspective on his priorities. Max has found in Raff a strangely clear voice for what really matters and by letting go of what he believed he wanted, Max finally reconnects with his dysfunctional family.
