Rain City: city of the blessed and of the damned, oozing atmosphere and menace. A land of opportunities ripe for the pick - and a world of drugs, crime and sex. The city of Hilly Blue, obscene king of crime, who rules with all-pervading evil. For the beautiful, vulnerable Georgia, it spelt the beginning; for her lover Coop it spelt the beginning of the end.

Two of the life's losers, they went over the mountains with their child to Rain City, homing in on Wanda's cafe, haunt of the underworld. And there Coop meets Solo, poet, crook and Hilly Blue's creature: Coop's education as a criminal has begun. As he slides from the small-time to the big league, so his relationship with Georgia crumbles. But Hawk, ex-cop with a past, is back in the city looking for the woman of his dreams. He finds her in Georgia and begins a hesitant seduction. Corrupted in mind and body, Coop dances closer and closer to the edge of hell; at Hilly Blue's decadent underworld party, the true demons come out of the dark as Coop and Solo turn to savage the hand that feeds them.
