At age 14, J.T. Leroy was a street prostitute, into drugs and fast heading for self-destruction. Ten years on, he is friends with stars like Madonna and Diane Keaton and a critically acclaimed cult author.
Asia Argento, star of "xXx", in her second film as director has vividly captured the hell that was young Jeremy's life as the son of a drug addicted hooker, and the grand-son of religious fanatics.
A life on the road in America's South when his mother Sarah took him away from foster parents. And a life that included rape and abuse as a child, when his mother sometimes dressed him as a girl and passed him off as her sister.
This bold, courageous film that first screened in Director's Fortnight in Cannes in 2004, and was shown at the Toronto Film Festival and the Los Angeles AFI features an all-star cast including Asia Argento, Peter Fonda, Marilyn Manson, Ornella Muti, Kip Pardue, Mike Pitt, Jeremy Renner, Winona Ryder and Jeremy Sisto.
In the tradition of Larry Clark's "Kids" and Louis Malle's "Pretty Baby" The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things is not a film for the squeamish but if you are willing to take the dark ride you will be rewarded. Above all it is a testament to J.T Leroy's survival.
