Tough, world-weary wanderer Rinda travels throughout the Southwest working occasionally as a truck-stop cook. She takes a job in a lonely little town and hooks up with a sexy local guy. She is unaware he is married until his wife turns up at one of ' their sessions, shotgun in hand! Rinda and the man's wife, Hallie form an unlikely alliance and head for Phoenix. The strain on the womens' tentative friendship escalates, as they both desire a handsome and mysterious hitchhiker who helps them fix their car. Meanwhile, police from Hallie's town begin investigating a
robbery-homicide, which may involve the women's enigmatic new "friend".
