His world in complete disorder after his break-up with a famous actress, Carter Webb (The O.C.'s Adam Brody in a standout performance), a young screenwriter, leaves L.A. and moves to suburban Michigan to care for his ailing Grandmother (Olympia Dukakis) and heal his broken heart. Along the way he forms a special bond with the family that lives across the street, especially Sarah (Meg Ryan), the mother, and teenage daughter Lucy (Kristen Stewart) - both of whom are facing crises of life, love and confidence. Through his relationships with these women, as well as his grandmother, Carter begins to discover that what felt like the end, was really only just the beginning.
