Sweeney Todd - In ConcertIcon_movClass_PG

2001, 132 minutes, Rated PG

Stephen Sondheim's Broadway masterpiece, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street is a musical thriller of romance and revenge set in Victorian England. The work premiered to unanimous critical and audience acclaim in 1979 and went on to win 9 New York Drama Desk Awards and 8 Tony Awards.

In 2000, a staged concert version of the piece was mounted in New York City with a star-studded cast of Broadway's finest and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. That performance has been preserved on compact disc in a brilliant, Grammy-nominated recording.

In July of 2001, the concert edition of Sweeney was presented at San Francisco's Famed Davies Symphony Hall, again with Patti LuPone and George Hearn starring. The world-class San Francisco Symphony, under the direction of Rob Fisher, provided the accompaniment for this powerful, sold-out concert. This magnificent performance has been captured in its entirety on video with stunning clarity and rich multichannel sound.
