Outspoken, hardworking Louisa Leyton is certainly a woman with ambition, and in London in the late 19th Century, she is ahead of her time. Her goal is to be the best cook in England and the post of Assistant Cook under Chef de Cuisine Monsieur Alex in a distinguished household is just the start, a place to hone her culinary skills to perfection and to learn the art of cooking for the rich.
Determination and hard work get Louisa through a difficult marriage and bankruptcy, enabling her to set up the successful Bentinck Hotel in London's St James. The headstrong chef and hotel owner makes her mark on English society but love, passion and controversy are never far away... Royalty and politicians keep the `Queen of Cooks' busy on the inside, while the politics of the day - the Suffragette movement and the First World War make their mark on Louisa and the Bentinck from the outside.
