After tracking down and killing the offender, Donald MacRae (Yves Renier) takes his infant son, Peter and disappears into the wilderness where the two hide from the law for over ten years.

As Peter grows older, MacRae is haunted by a promise to his dying wife to see that the boy is well-educated and decides to send him back to civilization to live with a close friend.
