 ER's Gloria Reuben stars with Academy Award Winner, Anne Bancroft and acclaimed actress Lynn Whitfield in the powerful story of one woman's search for mainly against all odds in the touching drama Deep In My Heart.

In a city divided by race during the 1960s, Gerry Cummins(Anne Bancroft) falls victim to a sexual assault in a bigoted neighbourhood.  When Gerry discovers she's pregnant as a result of the attack, she decides to give her child up for adoption, not realizing her daughter will face a lifelong journey guided by confusion, prejudice, isolation and an uncaring bureaucracy.

Raised till the age of seven by Corrine Burrell (Lynn Whitfield), a loving foster mother in a black neighbourhood, Gerry's daughter, Barbara Anna, leads a happy life until a callous adoption agency places the frightened girl thousands of miles away in a a "good home" with white parents.

Meanwhile, Annalise Crane (Alice Krige), a social crusader and Barbara Ann's anxious adoptive mother, does not truly understand she has ripped the girl from the only home she has ever known, Trapped in a strange place she does not understand, Barbara Ann quickly dissociates herself from the world around her - a world with no friends, no joy and no sense of family.

Branded an outcast by both the black and the white students in high school, Barbara Ann (Gloria Reuben) finally meets her first friend and finds love with football star Don Williams.  When Barbara Ann unexpectedly become pregnant, Annalise urges her to give the baby up for adoption, but Barbara Ann refuses, preferring to move in with Don's family instead.

Years later, the mother of five children and a wife to Don, Barbara Ann beings to face the past; She locates her adoption files and contacts her birth mother.  After Barbara Ann confronts Gerry with some serious questions, the two women reach an understanding and finally become mother and daughter again.
