From the writer of My Beautiful Laundrette, Hanif Kureishi, comes this prophetic tale of cross-cultural strife in 90s England.
Australian starless Rachel Griffiths (Brothers and Sisters, Hilary and Jackie) is brilliant as a young prostitute (Bettina) who forms a warm bond with Pakistani taxi driver, Parvez (Om Puri).
But when Parvez links Bettina with a predatory German businessman - played with cold venom by Stellan Skarsgard (Breaking the Waves) - he begins to discover his growing feelings for the fetching street worker.
Complicated by his traditional marriage, Parvez relations with Bettina are further threatened by his fundamentalist son, who with his newly formed Islamist brotherhood is waging a hold war against prostitution in Northern England.
