In 1731 up and coming artist William Hogarth encounters the beguiling Mary Collins in a Covent Garden pub - her entry to the world of prostitution. Hogarth finds it impossible to flush Mary from his mind and begins work on an extraordinary sequence of paintings, under the enthusiastic encouragement of his devoted wife Jane. But as Hogarth follows his muse, he's drawn further and further into Mary's world, endangering his career, his own health and his future happiness...
