"Discover the love of a lifetime."

Richard Attenborough, one of the world's most respected filmmakers (Gandhi, Cry Freedom, Chaplin Shadowlands), helms a deeply moving love story beautifully interwoven between the 1940s and the present.

In 1991, a small American town quietly mourns the loss of Chuck Harris: father, husband and honoured World War II pilot. His wife, Ethel Ann (Shirley MacLaine), refuses to mourn, drowning herself in alcohol and neglecting her daughter, Marie. But when Marie receives a curious phone call from a boy in Northern Ireland who claims to have discovered a ring belonging to Ethel Ann, a chain of events is ignited. As its narrative travels backward into the wartime past - to Ethel Ann
(Mischa Barton) as a spirited young woman living in Michigan, capturing the hearts of three friends, all Air Force men; to a passionate romance and a secret pact.
