Camille (Catherine Deneuve), a divorced owner of a bookshop, is the loving mother of 20 year-old Mathieu. Vivacious and independent, Camille's life is shaken to the very core after Mathieu is killed in a car crash, a horrible accident which occurred at the hand of Mathieu's best friend, Franck. To the consternation of her ex-husband, her daughter and her friends, Camille befriends Franck, seeing in him the wasted life of her cherished son.
