Following the tragic death of his mother after a period of mental illness, Elliot Christie fled his suburban Adelaide home to the comforting anonymity of Sydney's busy streets. Now, ten years later, his father has married his mother's sister, and Elliot has returned to his boyhood neighbourhood in order to attend the christening of his half-brother, for whom he will be godfather. Ten Empty takes place on the weekend of Elliot's return, during which he must face his younger brother's self-imposed vow of silence, his father's simmering hostility and his own fear of his brother's seemingly inevitable mental crisis.
