A struggling writer, Jeff, has a passionate, but turbulent romance with a mysterious young woman, Kelly, who he believes is emotionally disturbed. They drift apart but are reunited when the woman discovers she is pregnant with his baby. Jeff's father begins a war to save his son from this troubled soul but the family begins to be torn apart by this beautiful young woman and her unpredictable and increasingly violent behaviour. Jeff fights to raise his child but Kelly retreats to the sanctuary of the desert with the child.
