In a split second a perfect world can shatter.
Only a moment ago middle-class mum, Dr. Samantha Sheppard was taking her six year old son William, to school. Now she is pacing hospital corridors, desperately trying to contact her husband, while William is rushed into Emergency after being hit by a speeding car.
His injuries are not fatal, but doctors discover the child has early symptoms of a deadly disease. Only blood form a compatible donor can save him.
Samantha's life is turned upside down, and she is forced to reveal her most intimate secret to her husband. Leaving him hurt and angry in London she travels to Australia in search of the child's true father - and the blood to save her son's life. On the other side of the globe she finds herself caught up in an underground world of gangsters, jailbreaks and crime.
On the run from the law as an obsessed detective and her husband close in, Samantha realizes her feeling for her ex-lover are once again bubbling to the surface. But she is forced to continue on the path she has chosen, nursing a wounded criminal, knowing if this man dies, so does her son.
