Spain, spring 1931: Fernando, a young deserter fleeing through the countryside, meets Manolo, a wise and wizened elderly painter now retired from the art world and the world alike - who offers him assistance and protection. The day arrives however, when Fernando must leave, making way for Manolo's four daughters who are coming from Madrid for a few days visit with their father. When, Fernando sees the four - Clara, Violeta, Rocio and Luz, descend from the train, it isn't as though he consciously decides to return to Manolo's home. His feet decide for him! This film is a chronicle and a portrait of the days Fernando will spend in the company of Manolo and his four daughters. Days of love and friendship, joy and sadness, pleasure and pain, which will be the best days of Fernando's life - though he has no way of knowing so at the time - they will become his 'Belle Epoque'.
