1989, 97 minutes, Rated M

Tour-de-force performances. An outstanding cast. And "an important, unsettling story" (Village View) made all the more compelling - because it's true. Gary Oldman (Immortal Beloved), Dennis Hopper (True Romance) and Oscar winner* Frances McDormand (Fargo) star in this passionately acted and frighteningly real 'triumph-over-adversity story" (Screen International) that will send your heart soaring.

Oldman gives "a heroic performance with passion and intensity" (Boxoffice) as Emmet Foley, a decorated Korean War hero who's finding it difficult to adjust to civilian life. Loading his pistol, Foley takes aim at his Florida hometown, hoping to be killed by police so his wife can collecy on the insurance. Bit his actions instead land him in the Chattahoochee State Mental Hospital, where he encounters a reality far more horrifying than this everyday life. When he sees his fellow inmates violently abused by guards and forced to live in inexorable filth, Foley rekindles his respect for humanity...and begins a campaign to correct the hospital's vile practices, overcome his reputation as a madman - and become a hero once again. Pamela Reed (The Right Stuff), Ned Beatty (Deliverance) and M. Emmet Walsh (Blood Simple) also star in a film so uplifting and electrifying, "there's no denying its power" (Newsweek)!
