What are PopLists?

PopLists are lists of DVDs created byBigPond Movies Members. They can be about anything – from the general ('My All Time Favourite Movies') to special interest ('Buffy's Greatest Slayings') to the downright strange ('Films with Green in the Title') ...and everything in between.

PopLists are a fantastic way to discover great DVDs you may never have heard of, or re-discover some forgotten old favourites. And then, why not create your own PopList to share your favourite DVDs with other members?

1. How do I create my own PopLists?

You can create your own PopList in just two steps...

1. Create your PopList:

  • From the PopList Homepage, choose 'Create a PopList'.
  • Now give your PopList a name and a brief description
  • Choose whether you want your PopList to be private (visible only to you) or public (visible to everyone)
  • Then click 'Create your PopList '

2. Now, add some DVDs titles:

  • Search for a DVD that you'd like to add and, on its Movie details page, click the 'Add To PopList' button
  • Choose the PopList you want to add the title to (or select 'Create a New PopList' if you think this DVD needs a PopList of its own)
  • Write your comments, a review, or feedback about the DVD. This will appear on your PopList in place of the DVD's normal blurb
  • Click 'Add to PopList' and you'll go back to your PopList to see how it's looking.

You can update your PopList at any time. Just choose 'My PopLists' from the PopList Homepage and choose 'Edit'. You can also add new titles to your PopLists whenever you're browsing in BigPond Movies.

2. When I create a PopList, it asks if I want it to be Public or Private. What does this mean?

Private PopList sare only visible to you. No-one else, except the BigPond Movies team, can see your Private PopLists.

Public PopLists are visible to anyone visiting the BigPond Movies website – but you (as the author) will only be identified by your BigPond Movies nickname. Public PopLists must contain at least 5 DVDs and be approved by the BigPond Movies team before everyone can see them.

3. I created (or modified) a PopList but it's not showing under Most Recent PopLists?

There are several reasons why this might happen:

  • If you set the PopList to be Public:
    • It may still need to approved for publication by the BigPond Movies team. Just wait a few days and then check again.
    • The BigPond Movies team may have judged it unsuitable for publication (but you'll still be able to see the PopList privately, under 'My PopLists')
    • You still have less than 5 DVDs in your PopList
  • If you set the PopList to be Private:
    • It will only be visible to you,in 'My PopLists'. To make it publicly visible, select 'Edit This PopList' and change the setting to Public, then wait a few days for approval and publication.

4. You didn't approve my PopList, why?

PopLists usually get rejected because they contain language or comments that other members may find offensive, inappropriate or irrelevant. You'll still be able to view your PopList privately, on the 'My PopLists' page.

We reserve the right to reject, edit or completely delete a PopList if we see fit. If yours is just a bit over the top, or maybe needs a little more work, why not revise it and try again!

5. I love some of the PopLists I've found. How can I find them again?

Just click 'Add To Favourite PopLists' when viewing a PopList. Any time you want to look it upagain, just go to 'Favourite PopLists'.

6. Why is there nothing under Your PopLists or Favourite PopLists?

This will be because you haven't created or saved any PopLists yet. If you're not sure what to do, see 'How do I create my own PopLists?' above.
