What are Recommendations?

BigPond Movies uses some pretty smart technology to recommend DVDs for you to watch. Our system monitors the DVDs that you watch, rate and review, as well as the pages that you view on our site. This helps us understand what you like and don't like so we can make recommendations for you.

The more our system learns about your tastes, the more you're likely to enjoy our recommendations. So as you keep using BigPond Movies, it's a good idea to rate ALL the movies you watch or have seen before, because that helps us to make your viewing profile more accurate.

Then, when the day comes that you just don't know what to watch, we may be able to suggest something that's absolutely perfect!

The Recommendation Wizard

When you first join, we ask you to use a 'Recommendation Wizard' to help us get a good up-front understanding of your tastes. It's basically a quick movie survey, to help us learn what kinds of movies you like.

The 3-Step process is simple – and kind of fun:

  1. You rate your favourite genres. This gives us a basic understanding of the kinds of films you're into – Drama, Action, Romance, Comedies, etc.
  2. We present you with a list of movies that you might have seen before, and ask you to give them a star rating.
  3. We name some different movies, and suggest how we think you would have rated them.If you feel that you would have rated a movie differently, you just update its star rating.

At the end of this short process, you click on 'Get Recommendations' and we'll recommend a list of titles to you.

And remember, the more movies you rate after you've watched them, the better our recommendations will become.
